A three-day event conceived by New York artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles and held at the Maine College of Art on Congress Street, "Re-Newing" collected "art offerings" of local citizens, students and faculty for placement in a time capsule. An art piece also will be installed at the school designed and constructed by Ukeles which incorporates the work of the community art project.

The public was invited to participate in the school's efforts as a way to symbolize its ties and dependence on the local community.

Ukeles called upon "firefighters, dock workers, fishermen, ballet dancers and children, people with disabilities and teachers, nuns and doctors, everyone to come and create a small work of art that marks this special time."

"Re-Newing" ran from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m on December 2, 3 and 4.
